Compensatory Wetland Mitigation Plan – Fraser, Grand County, Colorado

Ecological Resource Consultants, Inc. (ERC) provided complete Clean Water Act Section 404 compliance consultation for a proposed mix-use private development project near Fraser, Grand County, Colorado.  ERC completed an aquatic resource delineation (approved jurisdictional determination) and Clean Water Act Section 404 authorization for proposed development impacts to Waters of the US.  As part of the authorization, ERC prepared a compensatory mitigation plan for approximately 0.5 acre of on-site permittee responsible mitigation. ERC delivered the project utilizing a turn-key design-build model, providing initial concept development, cost estimates, construction plans, regulatory coordination, construction implementation, wetland topsoil salvage and placement, native  revegetation and provided a five-year monitoring and maintenance program.  The compensatory wetland mitigation was determined successful and approved within 5 years following construction by the US Army Corps of Engineers Northwestern Colorado Branch Grand Junction Field Office.

Fort Collins Natural Areas

Fort Collins Natural Areas

ERC provided consulting services, design, permitting and construction services to the City of Ft. Collin’s natural areas program. As part of ERC’s services we reclaimed upland habitat, riparian zones, created wetlands and stabilized river and lake shore property. Full design/build restoration services were provided at Arapaho Bend, McMurray, Salyer, Bobcat Ridge and Rivers Edge Natural Areas. Work focused on restoring impacted areas to their natural setting. As part of our services we developed wildlife habitat, created shallow water ponds for waterfowl production, reclaimed a gravel pit, created wetlands, reestablished a riparian forest and addressed deficiencies in soil chemistry to promote natural revegetation evolution.

Town of Telluride Open Space Commission- Valley Floor Environmental Report

ERC has provided ongoing enviromental consulting services to the Town of Telluride since 2005. The Town contracted ERC in 2008 to provide a complete environmental assessment of the approximate 570 acre public open space Valley Floor Property.  The Town’s approach was to prepare a comprehensive assessment driven first by scientific data, but also one open and interactive with the public. The final Environmental Report provided the Town with a framework for intelligent, long-term management of the Property. The Environmental Report included a complete inventory of resources on the Property including: vegetation communities, wetland habitats (including formal wetland delineation and jurisdictional determination), aquatic resources, threatened, endangered and species of concern, wildlife use, mine tailings, soils, geology, groundwater, surface water, floodplains, irrigation facilities and historic items.

Udall Treatment Wetland

Udall Wetland

The City of Ft. Collins was concerned about the water quality from developed land that runs off directly into the Poudre River. Nuisance or low flow conditions were of particular concern. ERC designed and constructed a 2-acre treatment wetland to intercept and filter flows before their release to the river. The wetland system included a staged hydraulic control feature that routes lower flows through the treatment wetland while allowing peak storm flows to bypass the wetland. ERC’s design included a soil matrix and natural vegetation for biofiltering, fine sediment removal and uptake of pollutants. The wetland provided the secondary benefit of creating wildlife habitat along the river corridor.
