Stream Enhancement Services
Ecological Resource Consultants, Inc. (ERC) is a water resource engineering and environmental consulting firm that specializes in riparian and aquatic resource improvement projects. Successful completion of this work requires technical expertise from a variety of disciplines in order to accurately assess the causes of a stream system problem and define appropriate remediation solutions. ERC has a multidisciplinary team of professionals with expertise in ecology, biology, hydrology, hydraulics, engineering, geomorphology, landscape architecture and environmental regulatory issues. Our experience and team approach allows us to develop practical solutions that will meet project goals and be compatible with the natural environment.
Watershed Approach
A properly functioning stream system supplies clean water, supports a variety of aquatic and terrestrial life forms and provides an efficient, stable method of controlling flows and transporting water and sediment. ERC approaches stream enhancement using a watershed-based philosophy. Identifying changes in the watershed that impact the health of a stream allows ERC to implement resource management methods and stream enhancement measures that restore native functions and values of the riparian corridor.
Stream Equilibrium
Natural streams exhibit a dynamic equilibrium. While continually changing, the forces of hydrology, geology and topography create a natural stream alignment and gradient. Channelization, flow diversions and development in the watershed affect this natural balance. ERC understands the importance of regaining this balance. Stream shape, depth, width and gradient are evaluated as part of the design process and solutions are determined that reestablish stream equilibrium.
Habitat Improvements
Restoring and improving aquatic and riparian habitat is a goal of most stream restoration projects. ERC is experiences in the design and construction oversight of instream fish structures, native riparian habitat and off stream ponds and reservoirs. Our multidiscipline professionals understand the biological and engineering requirements for a successful project and use this knowledge to restore natural habitat, improve flow conveyance and reduce flood hazards.
